Radiology Staff Schedule
This sample radiology physicians schedule consists of 37 slots (assignments/shifts), 21 providers, and 20 groups. Vacation and day off slots are explicitly shown in the schedule. The schedule contains complex rules and interdependencies between assignments that are typically found in radiology associations. There are two sub -schedules: weekly schedules that contains all the daily activities and a separate annual schedule for vacations. In the annual vacation schedule, providers self-schedule themselves on a first-come first-serve basis. Use the "Department/Template" selection (upper-right corner) in the sample schedule to switch between the two sub-schedules.
Anesthesia Staff Schedule
This schedule contains 8 assignments, 21 providers and 2 groups. Schedules are generated every four-and-a-half months. Assignments refer to locations. Weekend assignments are linked using complex rules. High priority is given to equal distribution of weekends and assignments to different locations.
Emergency Department Staff Schedule
Twelve physicians cover five 24-hour shifts in this emergency department schedule. Circadian rules apply in general but some physicians prefer to not be under the circadian rule. Most physicians also prefer to work in blocks of four days in a row, although there are some exceptions. This group keeps track of statistics or tallies for Weekdays (defined as Mon-Thu), Fridays, and Weekends (Sat, Sun).
Hospitalist Staff Schedule
This is a typical hospitalist staff schedule with 6-day shift slots, a swing shift and a night shift. Hospitalist typically work in blocks of 7 days although some individuals prefer shorter blocks while others prefer longer blocks. Locums cover some of the swing and night shifts, particularly during weekends. Distributing the number of shifts equally among physicians is important. Exceptions apply to some individuals.
Family Practice Staff Schedule
This is a simple call schedule. On certain chosen dates, a provider must do both Call and OB/GYN Call. Only a preselected group of physicians can be assigned to the OB/GYN Call role. Friday and Sundays are linked. Distributing weekends evenly is important. Spacing between weekends and between weekdays is also very important. Physicians have certain preferred days to be on or off but this is a low priority.
Cardiology Staff Schedule
In this cardiology staff schedule, there are more tasks/assignments than there are providers, so each provider ends up doing multiple tasks each day. There are only 10 providers but there are 16 different assignments. Providers swap between Primary and Backup calls during weekends. Many of the assignments are in different clinics/ hospitals so the rules are set-up to minimize travel distance.
Pediatrics Staff Schedule
Twenty regular providers and twenty contract providers are responsible for thirteen different assignments/shifts. Contract providers cannot do all roles and their availability is often not known until later in the scheduling process. The scheduler manually puts in the contract providers to fill the holes as needed. The important rules are: weekend separation, and equal tallies.
OB/GYN Staff Schedule
There are two parts to this schedule - a call schedule and a day time office schedule. Use the "Department/Template" selection to choose between the two schedules. Weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun) are linked such that a provider doing call on Fri must also do the calls on Sat and Sun. There is however an exception for senior providers.
Ophthalmology Staff Schedule
This group also uses two schedules - an office schedule and a call schedule. Use the "Department/Template" selection to switch between the two schedules. The office schedule does not change frequently, and providers are assigned to an AM shift and a PM shift. Call schedule rules make sure that holidays are evenly distributed among providers in a round-robin fashion. Special rules are built to avoid the case where the round-robin distribution causes providers to do the same holiday in consecutive years.
